About NAN
Northern Animation Network (NAN) is a collaboration among 4 leading festivals in the Nordic/Baltic region: Viborg Animation Festival (Denmark), Fredrikstad Animation Festival (Norway), BLON Animation & Games Festival (Lithuania), and REX Animation Film Festival (Sweden). The network is supported by Creative Europe Media and Nordisk Film & TV Fund.
The network is working with two main missions:
Promoting the regional talent year round through a series of timeless video-interviews with a wide range of animators, directors and producers from the animation world
Becoming better and stronger festival institutions and platforms through collaboration.
Interviewing interesting voices within Northern Animation
The interviews spotlight the voices, visions, and real career stories behind Northern Animation Artists. Through in-depth conversations with animators, directors, producers, and other industry professionals, we explore what it’s truly like to work in animation across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. Each feature goes beyond finished films to reveal the creative journeys, challenges, and skills that shape a career in animation - offering behind-the-scenes insights from studios as well as practical tips from professionals. Whether you're just starting a career in animation or looking to deepen your understanding of the craft, join us as we uncover the artistry, ambition, and community driving the Nordic animation industry, one story at a time.
By the end of the first project period the series will have 40 interviews exploring the artists behind Northern animation.
A strong network
The four partnering festivals meet once a year for a festival-management seminar to exchange knowledge and solutions. It is also possible to meet representatives from the NAN network at other animation festivals around the world to promote Nordic and Baltic animation.
The project started in 2025 and is lead by Viborg Animation Festival.
